EXPAN, a revolutionary new building system from Structural Timber Innovation Company is the next big thing in timber design. With joist depths comparable to concrete and steel solutions, EXPAN at last makes possible high rise, wide span timber buildings. No wonder then that industry insiders are gushing:

“EXPAN is a genuine disruptive technology,” says Andrew Dunn, CEO of TDA. “We’re seeing markets open up that have hitherto been closed to timber. I believe that EXPAN and similar systems are about to transform architecture and construction in Australia.”

EXPAN comprises a range of composite and post-stressed, prefabricated timber systems that lock together using embedded metal tendons. It is light, strong, and built for speed: the simple lock-in tendon system permits rapid onsite installation. Moreover, the EXPAN flooring system has been carefully designed to reduce noise transmission.

TDA is confident that such features will quickly expand the timber industry share of the commercial construction market. Growing public awareness of the sustainability advantages of timber should reinforce this trend.

Having resulted from a government-industry partnership to expand timber markets, EXPAN is royalty free. You are welcome to design or fabricate using EXPAN. (For details, read the license agreement.)
