The new Acceptable Standards of Medium Density Housing Construction Handbook
The new Acceptable Standards of Medium Density Housing Construction Handbook
The Acceptable Standards of Construction Committee (ASCC) has recently released their much awaited Acceptable Standards of Medium Density Housing Construction Handbook.

Developed over a number of years with input from all sectors of the industry, including the NSW Department of Housing and the Office of Fair Trading, this handbook is a guide for the design and construction of conventional medium density housing, up to three storey walk-up apartments.

The ASCC has been in existence in NSW since 1936 and has been the copyright owner and publisher of the well known Acceptable Standards of Domestic Construction Handbook for all those years. It is pleased to see this second publication now on the market.

The new handbook, like its stable mate, has been developed to provide the designer and builder with a set of guidelines to assist in constructing a medium density building that meets the typical expectations of the consumer – not just the minimum standards laid down by the Building Code of Australia.

Although intended to be a reference handbook for medium density construction, one which we believe all students and industry professionals will need as part of their libraries, it is not intended to be definitive or an alternative to responsible problem solving.

The handbook is to been seen as an aid to those industry professionals, a publication that will be a living document, one that the committee are keen to continually upgrade and expand with new and alternative methods.

The handbook is now available for purchase through the TDA bookshop (TDA being the distributor for the ASCC). Wholesale enquiries are most welcome. Alternatively, the handbook may be purchased through all recognised resellers of building technical books and manuals, including the HIA, MBA, Dymocks and TAFE college book shops.
