TDA structural engineer Tony Walther poses beside a timber wall at the new TDA office
A move by TDA into refurbished offices in St Leonards, Sydney, sees the three biggest names in timber expertise in Australia – TDA, TABMA and FPA – once again together under the same roof.
This is big news both for TDA and the timber industry. Working alongside TABMA and FPA will encourage collaboration and specialisation – and will, we expect, produce significant gains for the industry.
“It’s all about value for money” said TDA CEO Andrew Dunn. “Reducing duplication while promoting co-operation between associations saves money for the industry as a whole. This relocation – and initiatives such as the creation of the Wood Council Australia umbrella group – will lead to significant long-term benefits and economies.”
Andrew and the rest of the TDA staff are pleased also to finally be working in an office that showcases timber design. Thanks to the efforts of TDA structural engineer Tony Walther and Gosford carpenter Joseph Moser, the office boasts timber walls, partitions and linings: it is an office that serves as a testament to the beauty and versatility of timber.
“Each day when I arrive here, I feel proud to be working in an office I designed and built,” said Tony. “But what a job it was! I’ve rarely, if ever, had to work so hard.”
Tony is hardly exaggerating. The fit-out of the TDA office had to be completed in 21 days from start to finish. It saw Tony working days and nights – and even sleeping in the carpenter’s workshop. Melbourne Cup day came and Tony didn’t even have time to watch the race on the office TV. But visitors to the TDA are unanimous on this: the results are spectacular. The TDA is going from strength to strength – and thanks to Tony it at last looks the part. |
