The Cypress NSW stall at the Complete Home Show
In our last newsletter we asked if all readers interested in Cypress could participate in an online survey; the survey is still on the web site, (click here) or go to timber.net.au and look for the "Surveys" button in the left hand navigation column, you can still put in your answers. The results to date indicate that maybe half those who participated, Architects, Building Designers, Engineers, Builders etc really understand Cypress but the answers to our questions about forest certification and quality assurance were overwhelmingly positive. It seems we are on the right track with these advances in the industry, have a look at the survey and test your knowledge it could be very enlightening. Our first public promotion was with a display at the Complete Home Show staged at the Moore Park Entertainment Quarter, Sydney, the Royal Hall of Industries exhibition centre, in mid September. We launched 2 new brochures developed for the campaign, "Cypress - A sustainable resource" and "Before and After you choose your tongue and groove natural cypress flooring". Over 2 thousand visitors called into see us over the 3 days of the show, asking lots of different questions about Cypress and looking at the beautiful floor we had on display.
Given the feedback we received, if more people could see Cypress flooring, regularly on display, then it
would be as popular as it once was and a real first choice species. Many visitors commented they didn't
know Cypress was still available while many more said they hadn't seen it before, a sad picture for
what is an iconic Australian timber.
More resources are currently being developed, including a Flooring Installation Manual, which should be available early in 2009, and a Cypress NSW web site www.cypressnsw.com, where you will be able to get all the information about usage and supply. The NSW Cypress Industry has come a long way in recent years with AFS certification of all Forests NSW Cypress resource and the introduction of a Quality Assurance program. Couple this information with the fact that Cypress is a high durability timber and is naturally termite resistant, no chemicals needed, then the desirability level from environmentally conscientious consumers is very high, as we also found out at the show. |
