WCTE - World Conference on Timber Engineering Logo
The World Conference on Timber Engineering (WCTE) is in Auckland July 15-19, 2012, the first time that this annual conference has come to the Southern Hemisphere. This puts the very latest in timber research and development within easy reach of the Australian building and timber industries.

The conference will focus on commercial scale timber construction. Over 300 presentations will be given on a great range of topics grouped together under daily themes. Those themes cover timber engineering challenges and solutions, designing for extreme events, the future of timber engineering… and much more.

Professor Hans Blass is one of the international keynote speakers. Prof. Blass, a European research and consulting engineer, is the global authority on large screw fastener technology for commercial construction. His contributions to international standards have resulted in a 400% increase in commercial timber construction in Europe in less than a decade.

Prof. Blass will be joined by Robert Malczk, a Canadian design and construction engineer. Mr Malczk is an authority on cross-laminated timber (CLT) construction in seismic areas. CLT is shortly to enter New Zealand markets, so local interest in this topic is huge.

Peter Busby, Managing Director at Vancouver architectural firm Perkins+Will, is the third major international speaker. Renowned for his innovative commercial designs with structural timber solutions, Mr Busby is also a leader in green building design.
