All you need to know about timber

TDA promotes the use of timber through talks and presentations, exhibitions, seminars and industry workshops. We maintain a library of publications and brochures, the bulk of which are available on our timber.net.au website. These are constantly updated to incorporate new industry and product developments and new technologies.

Professional Advice and Student/Apprentice lectures

TDA's Engineering Services staff are well qualified to give design and timber engineering information for all timber applications.

Architects, engineers, designers and members of the many professional groups specifying timber are provided information from National Research and Development programs as well as data gleaned from world sources.

Research and Development

TDA is at the forefront of Australian timber research and development. See our list of current projects

TDA is placing increasing emphasis on sustainability and climate change. We are involved in all aspects of sustainability research, waste reduction, waste recycling, and life cycle analysis. TDA is the secretariat of the National Timber Product Stewardship Group and also works through the Building Products Innovation Council on projects such as the Life Cycle Assessment of Building Materials and Products. We are also experienced in using industry research mechanisms to ensure the lawful sourcing of timber and wood products.

Australian Timber Design Awards

The Australian Timber Design Award is an annual event organised by TDA and sponsored by various sections of the Australian timber industry. A broad range of entry categories demonstrates the diversity of timber and permits recognition of achievement in a variety of areas.

The Australian Timber Design Awards are open to builders, designers, architects, engineers and landscapers: to anyone involved in the design or building of structures that feature timber. A separate section in the residential category is available to students and entrants aged 30 or under.

Timber.net.au: The Australian Timber Database

The timber.net.au website is the most extensive timber information database in Australasia. It includes a timber species guide, a suppliers list, a bookshop and much, much more.

Brochures and pamphlets on every conceivable aspect of timber usage are available from TDA or on the timber.net.au website.

These are regularly updated with information relating to new products and materials. These publications are designed to provide technical and practical assistance to architects, engineers, designers, tradespeople, apprentices, owner builders and hobbyists.
