The Timber Development Association of New South Wales (TDA) generally referred to as Timber Development Association or TDA, is an industry-funded association representing all segments of the timber industry, from forestry, manufacture to supply.
The TDA was incorporated on the 21st October 1938. Its original mission was to promote the use and sale of timber of all kinds, whether native to Australia or imported from abroad. It was also mandated to promote the interests of all persons, firms or companies in Australia involved with timber or wood technology, or engaged in forestry. The TDA mission has evolved considerably over the years. The TDA now concentrates on the technological advancement and market development of the timber industry.

TDA has several activities, these include;
The vision of the Australian Timber Design Awards is to highlight, advertise, advocate, and develop a timber design ethos through the encouragement and showcasing of superlative timber design in a variety of applications. A broad range of entry categories demonstrates the diversity of timber and permits recognition of achievement in a variety of areas.
The Australian Timber Design Awards is to provide a fair, ethical and competitive platform for businesses, designers and entrepreneurs involved in the building environment design field with different experience levels, diverse professional disciplines and a timber design focus to compete on, while providing them with a national (if not international) audience to showcase their success and talents to. The Australian Timber Design Awards and Competition aim to act as blender; to bring together architects, designers, builders, engineers, students, businesses and the press.
Timber Architecture and Construction is a weekly newsletter dedicated to the world best in timber design. The aim is to make designers of timber building and structures aware of the very best for inspiration and advancement of knowledge.
The newsletter is operated by the Timber Development Association an Australian industry-funded association representing all segments of the timber industry, from forestry, manufacture to supply. TDA’s objectives are to promote and educate the use of timber and timber-related products.
International and Local Tours
TDA has led more than 10 building professional tours to various regions of the world and Australia. Locations include central Europe, United States, Canada, and New Zealand, as well as Australian based tours.
Tours usually visit building sites under construction or recently completed, factories, and fabrication facilities.
Research
TDA conducts research for the Forest and Wood Products Australia and directly for timber companies. Research is wide-reaching from strategic planning for companies to acoustic, fire and structural testing.

TDA Membership
Membership of the TDA gives you a say in how the timber industry is represented to government. It gives you a voice in determining how timber products are promoted to the public and the direction of timber research and development. Perhaps most importantly, membership ensures that the timber industry is well represented in crucial public debates on such issues as sustainability and climate change. TDA developed a sustainability statement many years ago, repeated below, for assistance in carrying out decisions in our operations.
The TDA will integrate the principles of ecologically sustainable development into all our decision making processes, and our own activities, to mutually ensure the optimisation of welfare of this generation and all future generations. We will continue to encourage the industry we represent to be dynamic and develop business practices and products that promote sustainability.
